In Bhutan, the natural scenery is as stunning as the people are welcoming. In a place where success is measured by Gross National Happiness rather than Gross National Product, it is easy to see what the general feel of the country will be before even stepping foot there.

This mystical kingdom is home to the striking peaks of the Himalayas, often shrouded in mist, and the subsequent valleys that are dotted with forests. Deep blue lakes and raging rivers lie adjacent to some of the trails you will follow, providing stunning vistas at every turn and the chance to camp amidst wild surroundings. Few tourists have discovered this beautiful country, giving your travels an authentic feeling that can’t be matched elsewhere.

It is, however, the culture that defines Bhutan. The people here have tremendous pride in their nation and religious beliefs, displaying their faith through worship at ancient monasteries and the adoration of priceless artefacts. If you want to see Bhutan in all its cultural glory, it is a good idea to time your visit with one of the lively festivals that happen here throughout the year. In places like Paro (March) and Thimphu (September), the community comes together to celebrate in a crescendo of colour, dancing and food.
