Arrive Johannesburg; transfer to Mpumalanga.
After the arrival of the group flights, we will head due east on good roads to Mpumalanga. We will drive through the scenic landscape of Dullstroom and the Long Tom Pass, stopping at the Long Tom Cannons after which the pass was named to learn more about the Anglo Boer war. From here we will carry on to our overnight accommodation in Graskop on the edge of the escarpment, with a quick visit to the Mac Mac falls en route. Accommodation: Mogodi Lodge or similar.

Day 3
Panoramic Route, including God's Window, Blyde River Canyon and Bourkes Luck Potholes.
Today we will drive through some spectacular countryside, punctuated by visits to scenic spots such as Bourke’s Luck Potholes, Blyde River Canyon and God’s Window. There is an excellent interpretation centre at the Bourke's Luck potholes that describes the formation of the potholes and the Blyde River canyon and explains the fauna and flora of this region. We will arrive at our campsite in the late afternoon and there will be time to enjoy setting up camp and having a swim in the resort pool. This evening we enjoy a traditional South African braai (barbeque) over the open fire. Accommodation: Swadini Campsite or similar.

Day 4
Morning visit Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre; afternoon to Kruger N.P.
After breakfast and breaking down the camp, we will visit the Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre for a guided tour. The animals at the centre include lion, leopard, serval, lynx, Honey badger, eagles, vultures and any baby animals that they may have at the time of our visit. During the tour we will learn more about the influence that man has on the local environment and animals. After lunch we drive into the Kruger National Park and game drive to our camp. We will enter at the Phalaborwa gate and camp at Letaba camp. This is justifiably one of the most famous wildlife parks in the world. It is also one of the oldest, being established by the South African president Paul Kruger in 1898. It has arguably the greatest variety of animals of any park in Africa, with lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, Black and White rhino, as well as cheetah, giraffe, hippo and many species of antelope and smaller plains game. There are 147 species of mammals, 507 species of birds, 114 species of reptiles as well as 336 different trees found in Kruger National Park. Accommodation: Kruger National Park Campsite or similar.

Day 5
Full day game drives in Kruger N.P.
This morning we have an early breakfast and break down the camp before game driving north through the Kruger National Park. We will stop for a break and lunch at Shingwedzi camp and, time permitting, have a quick swim in the pool. In the afternoon we will continue north on our game drive and exit the park at the Pafuri gate, just before gate closing time. This game drive takes us through the less busy part of the Kruger National Park; it is also the drier region with the larger herds of animals. Accommodation: Awelani Lodge or similar

Day 6
To Great Zimbabwe Ruins, Zimbabwe.
After an early breakfast we will drive to the town of Musina, where we have a short break while the guides resupply all the essentials before crossing the border into Zimbabwe. The border crossing can take between 2 and 4 hours and a lot of calm and patience is required, but it is a uniquely African experience! Once we are through the border we will head north directly to the Great Zimbabwe Monument and our hotel; we will have a picnic style lunch en route. Accommodation: Great Zimbabwe Hotel or similar.

Day 7
To Matobo National Park.
In the morning we will visit the Great Zimbabwe Ruins for a guided tour. Great Zimbabwe is the greatest medieval city in sub-Saharan Africa. A religious and temporal capital, at its peak it dominated a realm stretching across eastern Zimbabwe and into modern-day Botswana, Mozambique and South Africa. Leaving the Great Zimbabwe Ruins behind, we will drive through the town of Masvingo and Bulawayo as we head for our campsite inside Matobo National Park. We will have a picnic lunch en route with a stop in Bulawayo to resupply. We will arrive in the late afternoon with time to set up camp and enjoy the sunset over this remarkable landscape. We return to our campsite in the afternoon. Accommodation: Rowallan Campsite or similar.

During the drier season, the wildlife in the park tends to congregate around the various watering holes, which allows us good game viewing opportunities.
